Channel Islands Early Warning for Phishing Attacks
Phishing emails are nothing new, but one thing we’ve noticed at Focused IT is just how quickly a convincing phishing attack can spread across the Channel Islands.
Jersey and Guernsey have relatively small and closely connected business communities. When an email account at a well-known local company is compromised, attackers can use genuine contacts from that mailbox to send phishing emails to other businesses across the islands.
Those emails can be particularly convincing. You recognise the company, you may recognise the person, and you might even have exchanged emails with them before.
And once they start circulating, we often see similar messages arriving at several of the organisations we support.
An early warning from Focused IT
That’s why we’ve set up Focused IT Cyber Security Alerts.
Across our client base, we see a large number of emails and reported phishing attempts. When we spot a new phishing campaign or a pattern emerging, we can send an alert warning people what to look out for.
The idea is simple: if we’ve already seen it, we’d like to warn you before you see it too.
There are plenty of places to get general cyber-security news, but our alerts are focused on what we’re actually seeing – particularly threats affecting Jersey, Guernsey and the wider Channel Islands business community.
You don’t need to be a Focused IT client to receive them. If you live or work in the Channel Islands and would like an occasional warning when we spot something worth knowing about, sign up below.
